Marti: Music Video Series – Director
I directed a series of music videos for Marti, a DC-based artist known for her raw, genre-blending sound and emotionally honest lyrics. Each video was shaped by the mood and message of the song, built to reflect Marti’s grounded, authentic style while experimenting with tone, structure, and visual language.
For Mothers and Fathers, we shot in summer 2020 at the height of the pandemic and protest season. The goal was to create a visual space for Black joy, freedom, and release, shot entirely outdoors, with a cast of friends, in grassy open spaces that emphasized movement and connection. The video captured a softness we rarely got to feel in that moment.
For Easy, we leaned into the song’s throwback soul feel with a modern twist, channeling artists like Amy Winehouse and Etta James. Shot in just 20 minutes, the video plays like a cinematic editorial: rich lighting, sharp styling, and intimate performance footage that blends raw emotion with visual polish. We built the shoot like a magazine spread, letting Marti’s voice carry the visual rhythm.
Each video in the series was created in collaboration with cinematographer Nabil Abdulkadir.
